National News: In a press briefing on Friday, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh revealed that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force carried out strikes on three hangars inside a Pakistani airbase. Nearly four to five aircraft were destroyed in the attack, including an F-16 fighter jet and some surveillance planes stationed there.
Speaking about Pakistan’s response, the Air Chief said, “They have their own stories to tell their people, let them continue. Our focus was accuracy.” He emphasized that the operation lasted three to four days, with Indian aircraft striking 300 kilometers deep inside Pakistan. The mission was executed with pinpoint precision, reflecting the seamless coordination between all three branches of India’s armed forces.
Highlighting its significance, the Air Chief declared, “This war will be remembered as one of clear intent and decisive execution.” He noted that while global conflicts drag on without resolution, India ended its hostilities once the objectives were fully achieved. According to him, the swift conclusion of Operation Sindoor sets an example for the world on how wars can be fought with clarity and restraint.
The Air Chief underlined the effectiveness of India’s newly inducted long-range surface-to-air missiles (SAMs). These advanced systems, he said, enabled India to monitor Pakistani airspace in depth and restrict enemy aircraft from operating freely, even within their own territory.
Touching on the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Singh reaffirmed that India is steadily moving towards defence self-sufficiency. While indigenous projects like Tejas continue, joint ventures and selective foreign acquisitions remain important to bridge capability gaps. He highlighted India’s achievements in the space sector, particularly lauding Gaganyaan and the contributions of scientist Shubhanshu Shukla.
Outlining the roadmap ahead, Singh said the Air Force is working under Vision 2047 to ensure long-term preparedness. He stressed that dependency on external suppliers delays critical needs, which is why domestic projects like LCA Mark 1A, Prachand helicopters, and the upcoming Indian Multi-Role Helicopter are crucial. “The next war will not resemble the last one,” he asserted, adding that the Indian Air Force is adapting itself for future challenges.
